The Montgomery GI bill may be used for:

Technical or vocational courses
Flight training
Apprenticeships or on-the-job training
High-tech training
Licensing and certification tests
Entrepreneurship training
Certain entrance examinations
Correspondence courses
Remedial, deficiency and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances.
The Department of Veterans Affairs pays the Soldier $397 a month for full-time enrollment at a college or university of their choosing.
The Army National Guard’s Montgomery G.I. Bill Kicker program encourages applicants and Soldiers to enlist into selected Military Occupational Specialties (MOSs).
The Kicker is paid in conjunction with the Montgomery G.I. Bill benefit, giving you an extra $200-$350 paid directly to you tax-free.
The Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) program is provided to help Soldiers pay for their college tuition. FTA is open to all Oregon Army National Guard Soldiers seeking up to their master’s degree. The program will pay up to $250 per semester hours/165 quarter hours.
State Tuition Assistance (STA) provides tuition funds for Soldiers attending public and private universities and select public community colleges. This benefit is intended to help Soldiers achieve their bachelor’s degrees. Money for tuition is paid directly to the school.
The National Guard values higher education and offers many types of programs to assist you to stay on track while you serve. The Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) is an option that may be available to Soldiers and officer candidates (09S) who have one or more qualifying and disbursed Title IV federal loan(s).
​The loans must be listed on the Department of Education National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) aid summary website prior to contracting.
​Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) incurred for individual use only are eligible for repayment.
​State and private loans are not eligible for repayment under the SLRP.
​Repayments for SLRP incentive contracts issued will not exceed the maximum authorized cap of $50,000 established by the Department of the Army.
